Your Living Family Tree

Staying Connected to the Past & Present

The Web The NextRoom

How it works

Summary

The Summary will provide a quick look at the life of the person. It would cover major events in their life such as marriage and children’s’ births. This will provide the dates and supporting information that goes along with the dates. For example when clicking the date of a birth marriage or death it would show the supporting document. This might include birth certificate, death certificate or marriage license.

Multiple documents may apply and would be presented as links to the available information.

Example: marriage
You may be presented with links to see the:

  • marriage license
  • wedding album
  • home movies
This allows multiple sources of information to be brought together with one click.

Biography

The Person's Bio section will be presented from the point of view of the person telling their own story. The idea is to allow people reading it to feel a sense of connection with this person and their own history. All information that is available about the person will be contained in this section.

Any information that can be uploaded can be viewed through this section. This information includes audio, video, photographs and a wide variety of paper documents and art work. The only material that cannot be displayed is material protected by federal copyright laws. The only exception to this will be when proof of authorization to publish on the the web is verified.

Events

The Events section presents the events that were going on during the family members lifetime. These events may have occured locally, nationally or globally and help to show different aspects of the persons life. The first aspect is involvement they had in the events that happened. For instance they may have served in a war or had been part of an event that was covered in the news.

The second aspect of the event coverage would be the impact that the events had on their life. These events would reflect things like the rise and fall of industries, governments and the economy. Your family member may have left their home and migrated to another country to find a job, escape a war or government that threatened their life. It is one thing to know that someone imigrated to another country or state, it is another to understand why they did it in the first place.

Jobs and Hobbies

This section covers the job(s) that the family member had when that information is available. If the only thing that is known is their trade for example then general information about that trade for that time would be shared. If no information is known about what they did then no information would be provided. As in the other sections there is always the chance for multiple records to be displayed for each item.

In this section you will also find information about the hobbies had in their lifetime. There would be pictures of projects they may have done, for example a piece of furniture they may have made. There may even be documentation about showing them performing their hobbie. In the absence of information about specific hobbies they may have done, there would be information on what hobbies had been popular at that time.

Lifestyles

In this section you will find misc. odd bits and pieces about the lifestyle that the person lived. For example you may find the recipe for their famous apple pie. You may find information on how they decorated their home for the holidays and what holidays they celebrated. These are the small details about a persons life that often times are the most meaningful to us. The garden, the flowers or even the pets that filled their lives.

Should that information not be available then there will generic information provided. This information will describe what items made up someone’s life at that time. The person may have lived hundreds of years and no one has a living memory of how they lived their life. In these instances it would be interesting to know what foods were popular or how they stored and prepared their food. Would they of had pets or what they might have done for relaxation.
